July - yes July!

Be prepared to be amazed. *LOL*
It's only the 4th of the month and I have already completed my card for July.
This is the source material for this month:As soon as I looked at this yesterday I knew exactly what I was going to do.
And even more amazingly with the weather being as warm as it is here, from beginning to end has taken me about 1.5 hours.
The customary close up:I used Lutradur 100 weight and rolled on Gesso. When the Gesso was dry I sprayed diluted silk paint, in four different colours, on top.
Backed with watercolour paper and machine stitched around the edges.
This is on its way to Sharon and I am feeling very smug. :))

June - Carol T

Just a tiny bit late on June's card. I am way behind on May's. Have been a bit well not with it is the only way to describe it. Have had a sabbatical from the net really and have been enjoying the company of old friends. So this month I started off with a iece of white cotton that had been stamped with script all ready. I think painted with acrylics and added foi treesand stitching. I fet this should be very inear so did ots of rows of stitching. I am pleased with how it has turned out. Hope my partner likes it.

June PC for Lynda

I knew when I saw this image that I knew I wanted to concentrate on the colour blocks in it, so when my lovely friend gave me a load of stash recently, I discovered a huge bag of 1" square fabric samples and just had to use them.
Coupled with that I've been doing a lot of FME writing lately so couldn't resist a few happy summer words.
Hope you like it Lynda

June postcard for Sharon

Photo finish. This time it's really photo finish. Not that i have been idle, but the first one just didn't cut it as it came out too dark.
This month's image suggested a patchwork and i went from there.
For the card i treated the background with modeling paste, added a bit of scrim for texture and lots of color. Then i transfered the image of the month ,which had been previously manipulated, on to the surface, glued the piece of fabric and added some stitching. However,it needed something to hold it together.i decided to liberally replicate the linear elements in the picture with some thick yarn and i think that did it, .
Sharon, it will be in the post tomorrow.Hope you like it.

All the photos in this batch are not that good, they all have reflective surfaces which didn’t help. And yes, I know I have a 6' man-size light tent and a smaller home-made one – but who can be bothered to get them out on a Saturday afternoon. *LOL*
Thought this month might be easier, lots of lovely blocks of colour. But no, I struggled just as much again as I have before. My own fault for trying to do something ‘different’.
With this first one I printed the design using the laser printer on to fabric that had been coated with InkAid, bonded it to Pelmet Vilene and then hot waxed over the top. I just love the smell of this beeswax. :)It does look quite good but I felt it was ‘cheating’ slightly with hardly any effort put in to it.
With this one I printed on to brown wrapping paper. I tried an InkAid coated piece and a plain piece through the laser but found that the toner just sat on the top and rubbed off really easily on both of them. Don’t really understand why as it isn’t a shiny brown paper. So I ran these two off through the inkjet printer.
Both prints were then crumpled up before being bonded to Pelmet Vilene. This first one has been coated with a wax varnish designed for use with oil paints. I thought in both cases that the ink might smudge but surprisingly it didn’t.This one was given a coat of Acrylic wax and then a rub over with my old favourite, Treasure Gold - which of course, hasn't shown up in the photo.I like the effect on both these pieces, especially the first one, but didn’t feel they reflected the source photo enough.
My next idea was to use the embellisher and snippets of scrim but I didn’t really have the right colours. I overlaid the whole piece with a red organza which was then embellished down and a strip of blue organza at the side. And finally, my last effort. I printed the whole photo on to abaca tissue then printed just a small section:The cutout section was laid over the complete section and both were bonded to Pelmet Vilene. I choose to use organzas that I had in the colours that were as close to the print as I could and stitched them in place overlaying each colour.

This photo has been taken at a funny angle so that you can see the effect through the organza and I’ve put a closer view in too but I’m not sure how much more of an idea you can get from that. This will be in the post on Monday. :)

June card for Carol

A simple collage, not as vibrant as I would have liked but then all the materials were from stash!
